Abstract: The fundamentals of cohesive powder consolidation and flow behaviour using a reasonable combination of particle and continuum mechanics are explained. By means of the model “stiff particles with soft contacts” the influence of elastic-plastic repulsion in particle contacts is demonstrated. With this as the physical basis, the stationary yield locus, instantaneous yield loci and consolidation loci, flow function, consolidation and compression functions by the flow properties of a very cohesive titania nanopowder (surface diameter ds = 200 nm) are presented. These models are used to evaluate shear cell test results as constitutive functions for computer aided design of process apparatuses for reliable powder flow.
Key words and phrases: Gas-solids direct contact; Dilute gas-solid suspension; Packed contactor; Interactive forces.
Abstract: Interactive forces between the three phases (gas, fine particles, and coarse and dense particles) govern the direct contact mechanism that occurs in the Gas-Solid-Solid Packed Contactor (GSSPC). Using continuity and momentum equations, these interactive forces are derived as functions of the overall pressure drop, the average dynamic hold up of solids, and the physical properties of solids, gas and a regular packing. Particle-packing walls collision model has been proposed to interpret the occurrence and physical origin of these interactive forces, to quantify them, and to predict the overall pressure drop in the three phases system.
Key words and phrases: spouted bed; hydrodynamic; fluid flow regimes; minimum spouting velocity.
Abstract: Experimental studies of the pneumatics in different spouted bed apparatuses have been studied. The operation spouting regimes have been determined in different spouted bed constructions and have been compared with the conventional fluidized bed. The spouted bed techniques are used when in the fluidised bed a homogeneous and stable flow regime is not observed as, for example, in the cases of non-spherical particles and in polydisperse and feindisperse systems. Consequently, original hydrodynamics correlations to calculate the Reynolds number, corresponding to the stable fluidization, and for the calculation of the simplex G have been proposed. The pneumatic regimes of different constructions spouted beds are demonstrated through DP-w- and Re-G-Ar-diagramms.

Key words and phrases: geometrically nonlinear contact problem; Timoshenko-type plate; mixed finite element method; perturbed Lagrangian formulation.
Abstract: A contact problem for the elastic Timoshenko-type plate undergoing arbitrarily large displacements and rotations and the rigid punch is considered. The numerical algorithm has been elaborated for solving the contact problem on the basis of the mixed FEM by using the perturbed Lagrangian formulation. Six displacements of the face planes of the plate are chosen as unknown functions. This allows to simplify a solution of the contact problems, since with the help of such displacements the kinematic conditions of no penetration are formulated, and to derive relationships for the components of the Green-Lagrange strain tensor exactly representing arbitrarily large rigid body motions.
Key words and phrases: hematite; dilatometry; dislocation; micro- and macro-destruction; monocrystal ferrite; thermal impact; chemical pickling.
Abstract: Processes of relaxation of induced thermoelastic stress in monocrystal Mn-Zn ferrite by means of vacuum dilatometry and thermal impact are studied. It is found out that linear expansion coefficient and temperature vary differently. Within 400¼700 °C sharp reduction with minimum at 600 °C takes place. Above 700 °C coefficient stabilizes at the same level or reduces slightly. Both at dilatometric heat and thermal impact under different temperatures different mechanisms influence relaxation of elastic stress. At first the main ones are shift processes of plate nucleation of non-magnetic hematite phase, then – the acts of cracking. The role of growing and newly originated structure defects as stress concentrators changes.
