Key words and phrases: energy harvesting; mechanical vibrations; piezoelectric elements; Structural Health Monitoring.
Abstract: This paper describes a new experimental methodology for accurate measurements of the efficiency of energy conversion in PZ (piezoelectric) elements. These elements are often used to monitor on-line the progressive structural damage of engineering structures, such as bridges, aircrafts and pipelines. Harvesting energy from small amplitude mechanical vibrations of such structures can revolutionize these monitoring techniques by increasing their reliability, reducing the maintenance cost and making them fully autonomous. As the quantity of electrical energy that can be harvested from vibrations is rather low, it is important to ensure that the piezoelectric elements are operating at the best possible efficiency.

The drawback of silica gels is their low water resistance that limits their field of application. Water-resistant silica gels produced by forming the finely dispersed initial silica gels with binders do not possess such a drawback. Production technology of water-resistant silica gels is developed and their production is carried out ate the enterprise “Roskhimzashchita”. Advantages of their application in terms of pressure swing adsorption are shown.

Assumed stress-strain quadrilateral plate elements based on analytical and numerical integration
Department of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, TSTU

Key words and phrases: assumed natural strain method; four-node solid plate element; mixed finite element models.
Abstract: On the basis of the first-order solid plate theory, proposed in earlier authors’ articles, two assumed stress-strain ANS quadrilateral four-node solid plate elements are developed. This paper generalizes the conventional assumed stress solid plate/shell finite element formulation because transverse shear strains are distributed in the thickness direction according to the linear law. Both quadrilateral ANS solid plate elements developed are based on the unified technique that allows assessing their advantages and disadvantages. It is worth noting that element stiffness matrices of elaborated quadrilaterals including a displacement-based ANS quadrilateral four-node element have six zero eigenvalues as required for satisfaction of the general rigid-body motion representation.

Two simple diagrams “fan” and “chain” are suggested. More complicated diagrams – “circular” and “stepped” – to visualize intricate relations inside a period were introduced. Detailed syntactic analysis of investigated topics is presented. In conclusion results of comparative investigation of cause and effect topics syntactic structure are discussed.
